The Daily & Sunday TV Mass is celebrated in the historic chapel at Loretto Abbey which had been the long term convent of the Loretto Sisters in Toronto Ontario. Loretto Abbey School was established as an all girls private school in 1847 by Irish Sisters of Loretto (also known as the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, IBVM) founded in France by the Venerable Mary Ward in 1609. Mary Ward advocated excellent education for young women so that they might “do great things” and this has always formed part of the ethos of Loretto schools.
Mary Ward, was born 23 January 1585 and died on 30 January 1645. She was an English Catholic nun whose activities led to the founding of the Congregation of Jesus and the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Sisters of Loretto, which have both established schools around the world. Mary Ward was declared venerable by Pope Benedict XVI on 19 December 2009.
On January 23, 2020 the Daily TV Mass will be offered in memory of Mary Ward on her birthday. The Daily TV Mass community is invited to join in prayers for the beatification of the Venerable Mary Ward and the following prayer will be offered at the beginning of Mass.
